Restore Your Smile and Confidence with Dental Implants
Missing or broken teeth can impact more than just your self-esteem; they can affect how you speak, what you eat, and your overall oral health.
For Winnipeggers looking for a long-term solution, dental implants offer a secure, permanent way to replace missing teeth. Unlike traditional options that may slip or shift, implants are anchored directly into your jaw, restoring both the natural look and the full function of your smile.
At Shine Dental, we provide a full range of full mouth restorations using dental implants so you can have the smile you’ve always wanted. Learn more about whether dental implants are the right option for you by booking a consultation today.
What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a small, screw-like post made of biocompatible titanium that acts as an artificial tooth root. Because titanium is accepted so well by the body, the implant actually fuses with your bone over time, creating a strong, stable replacement for your natural tooth.
Depending on your specific needs, we can use implants in several different ways:
- All-on-4 Implants: A full-arch solution that replaces an entire row of teeth using just four strategically placed implants.
- Single-Tooth Implant: Replacing one missing tooth with a custom crown.
- Implant-Retained Dentures: Giving traditional dentures a “snap-in” stability to prevent slippage while eating or speaking.
Top Benefits of Dental Implants
The benefits of dental implants go far beyond aesthetics. They are the only tooth replacement option that preserves and stimulates natural bone, helping to deter the bone loss in the jaw that can follow a missing tooth.
Dental implants are akin to trees on a riverbank, which prevents the banks from eroding because of the trees’ root structure beneath the surface. In the same way, dental implants stabilize the bone and prevent it from atrophying, protecting your mouth, jaw, and facial structure.
By filling the gap, implants also prevent neighbouring teeth from shifting out of place, preserving the alignment of your entire mouth. Most importantly, they restore your bite function to near-natural levels, so you can enjoy your favourite foods again. While crowns may eventually need wear-and-tear maintenance, the implant post itself has an approximate lifespan of 25 years or more with proper care.
Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Most adults in good health are excellent candidates for implants. However, a successful implant requires a strong foundation. We look for:
- Healthy gums free of periodontal disease
- Adequate jawbone density to support the titanium post
- Overall good health to support proper healing
- A commitment to consistent oral hygiene
If you have been missing teeth for a while and have experienced bone loss, don’t worry, a bone graft can often be performed to build up the volume needed for a successful implant.
The Dental Implant Process
The journey to a restored smile begins with a thorough evaluation and diagnosis to find out if implants are right for you. This includes assessing your jawbone, gums, and overall oral health.
From there, surgery can be performed in multiple stages or all at once with our Teath-in-a-Day technique. We will walk you through your options so you can make an informed decision about your dental implants.
Our goal is to make your new tooth stable and comfortable for the long haul.
The first step is the surgical placement of the titanium post into the jawbone. This is a routine procedure performed in the office under local anesthetic to keep you comfortable.
If the tooth being replaced by the implant is still in your mouth, we will extract the tooth before replacing it with the titanium implant.
This is the most critical stage, known as “osseointegration,” where the bone grows around the implant. This typically takes 3 to 6 months.
During the first few days, you may experience mild swelling or tenderness. To protect the site while it heals, you will need to stick to a soft-food diet and avoid hard or crunchy foods that could disturb the implant.
Once the implant is fully integrated with your jawbone, we attach a custom-made porcelain crown. This tooth is designed to match the shape, size, and shade of your natural teeth perfectly.
A great part about implants is that they don’t require special cleaners. You care for them just as you would natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental checkups will keep them healthy for decades.
For patients needing to replace a full arch of teeth, All-on-4 implants can be provided in one day. During this procedure, we place 4 implants strategically to anchor non-removable teeth, replacing conventional dentures.
Some benefits of Teeth-in-a-Day include no more denture adhesive or sore spots, regain most of your natural chewing and biting ability, and not having to go without teeth during the treatment.
